Adjusting my Mind

Well, I have had four full days to wrap my brain around the boy factor. Has it sunk in all the way? No. Am I doing flips every time I tell someone I am having a boy? No. Do have daydreams about my adorable son wearing a blue puppy dog onesie? Absolutely not......BUT it is becoming more real and I know it will be great at some point.

I did do some major retail therapy this weekend. I searched high and low in every store that I could think of. I hunted through old reliables like Gym*boree, Ja*nie and J*ack, O*ld N*avy. There is NOTHING that I even remotely like. But then I searched through Ba*by G*ap and found acceptable clothes. Mind you, they are not to die for but they are pretty cute and I like them more each time I look at them.

We also drove to the south side to meet my Grandma for lunch and shopped at M*acy's. We got some onesies and sleepers and matching receiving blankets that are also acceptable.

So I feel better. It just seems to take a LOT more time and effort to find anything good for a tiny boy to wear! It is exhausting keeping him in fashion and he is not even here yet!!!

Shock of a Lifetime

Bryan and I went yesterday evening for our second ultrasound of Baby #2. Everything went smoothly and the sonographer was awesome. She went over every little part of the baby - perfect brain, well-shaped organs, cute arms and legs. He looked perfect. That's right - he!!! I was stunned speechless to see a little baby penis on the TV screen. Bryan was so excited and kept asking me if I was OK. I just couldn't believe it. I still can't believe it.

I had just convinced myself it was a girl. This pregnancy has felt exactly the same as my pregnancy with Jillian. I kept envisioning two adorable girls with matching dresses. I imagined the two of them sharing a room decorated in pink or purple. Now, I have got to get a new plan...a new vision. I will have a princess and a prince.

After the sonogram, we went to a nearby Target to check out the boy clothes. Goodness, that is going to be the hardest part. The stuff was hideous. Dorky stuff with puppy dogs and teddy bears. Stupid sports gear with "MVP." I can't stand that stuff. But I could not leave with nothing so this is what I bought.....

The best part is he looked so healthy and perfect. HB was 158 and he was measuring 22 weeks 6 days. Estimated weight 1 lb 2 ozs.

Here is the strangest part in the whole thing. I was struck on the head with the obvious...this is God's plan. I am meant to have a little boy. I love him to pieces already. He looked so cute moving around on the screen. But I am also struck with this really strange feeling that God's plan is not finished for our growing family. Bryan and I still have more in store for us beyond this little adorable boy. What is it? Time will tell.

Thoughts about boy names to come later.......

Dr. Visit for Baby #2

Yesterday, I went to the dr. office for Baby #2. Let me give you some back up information. I had an appt. in August but I realized that it was on Meet the Teacher Night so I needed to reschedule. When I called, the receptionist told me that the NEXT available appt. was Sept. 22. I told the receptionist that would make 8 weeks between appts for me. That did not sound good to me. But the receptionist scolded me and said the Dr. was very busy and this was the next appt. and I should schedule the rest of my appts. when I come into the office at my next visit. OK. What else could I do? I am not an argumentative person.

Fast forward to yesterday. I got there at 4:30 for my appt. Bryan called and said he just got off work and he was going to meet me. Great! We waited and waited. Finally, a nurse called me back and said Bryan could not come b/c the second waiting room was full. The nurse said she would come and get him when they gave me a room. More waiting......waiting. Finally, a room! But no Bryan. A nurse quickly came in and took my blood pressure and had the doppler. She found the heartbeat and left. I called Bryan using my cell phone and told him to come back to the room.

When the Dr. came in, she asked why I had not been there in 8 weeks? I told her what had happened with rescheduling appt. and what the receptionist had told me and she was livid. She told me that next time to leave her a message and she would straighten it all out. She was very worried that I had not done the quad screen. She made some phone calls and said the last day for the quad screen was 22 weeks, 6 days and I was 22 weeks, 2 days so I just barely made it. Then I told her that Bryan had waited in the waiting room and nobody came and got him so he missed the baby's HB. Dr. personally went fussed at her staff (we could hear her perfectly as she was yelling loudly) and got the doppler and found it again so he could hear it. First time, HB was 146 then 145.

I love my Dr. so much!!!! I cannot stand her office staff and they do a yucky job every time I am there but she is great so I will suffer with her staff.

She scheduled our ultrasound for tomorrow!!! I will say lots of baby girl prayers tonight!!! I don't know how I could handle a Bryan, Jr.

Today is Sunday. As is our usual Sunday morning routine, we watched Sesame Street in bed (which I really enjoyed this morning b/c D*avid B*eckham was playing soccer with E*lmo), then I made waffles and then we started getting ready for church. Usually Bryan dresses Jillian on Sunday, but he was playing golf with some friends this morning so I was on my own. I realized I did not have time to shower and shave my legs so a dress for me was out of the question. I ironed a nice shirt and pair of capris and I was ready to go. Then it was Jillian's turn to get ready. I got out an adorable purple dress which was monogrammed with her initials. She started having a fit. She began flinging her arms, throwing her head back and kicking her legs. She looked straight into my eyes and said, "Mommy, pants." Jillian made it very clear she was NOT wearing a dress to church this morning. So I had no choice but to put the adorable dress away in her closet and get out a very cute pants outfit. Jillian was as happy as a clam for the rest of the morning. Here is my big girl in her pants!!
Of course she has to ham it up for the camera!

My sister is taking Jillian (without a nap) to the circus with her little cousins so I'll let you know how it goes.

Nighttime Routines

For many months, Jillian has two sleeping buddies - baby and bank (aka blanket). See picture 1.

About two weeks ago, we accidentally left baby at Grammie and Poppy's house. Jillian was terribly upset, Daddy did not want to make the late night drive over to G and P's house to retrieve baby, so we pleaded with Jillian to accept a sleeping substitute. After much convincing, she accepted a talking puppy and an E*lmo doll and went to sleep. Now we have baby back at our house but baby is no longer enough to keep Jillian happy at night. Then Jillian got sick and threw up on bank so we had to temporarily replace bank with a new bank. But now that old bank is clean, old bank is not enough to keep Jillian happy at night.

Now when Jillian goes to sleep, she insists on taking "bank" AND "two" (blanket #2) AND baby AND puppy AND "Momo" (E*lmo doll) AND now she has added a little Noah figurine from her Noah's Ark set. Really, people, there is barely room for Jillian in her crib!!! She is a funny girl.

You can obviously see puppy, E*lmo and Noah but baby and two are hiding underneath bank. Did you get all that lingo? Ha ha!!!

Me too

Now I've got it. I feel awful. I am puking and trying to finish my last thirty minutes teaching 20 5 year olds. Somebody shoot me!

Week 2 - No MDO

Unfortunately, Jillian missed both days of MDO this week because she is throwing up. We took her to the doctor on Tuesday and the doc said it is likely just a stomach virus. She is still very low on the weight percentile chart but the doctor says since she always has been, they are not going to worry about it unless she falls off the weight chart. On Wednesday, she was still throwing up and added dirrhea to her list of ailments. I talked to a nurse and we are doing our best to follow her instructions of an all starch diet to get Jillian to stop throwing up. Jillian was still sleeping when I went to work this morning but I am hoping there will be no throwing up today. I know my Dad is tired of getting thrown up on.

In other news, Bryan has caught the bug. He spent all night throwing up. I really hope everybody is better by the weekend. There is only so much throw up a person can take!!!
