Daon ranted yesterday and I want to share my rant today.
My rant is in concern to this guy.
A week ago, I was at a children's birthday party where I was the outsider. I only knew the hostess and her kids but did not know any of her friends/family. I was trying (I swear ya'll I really was trying) to go outside my box and to be nice to strangers and make small talk.
BUT that never seems to work out for me. One of the moms came up to me and said, "I just want to warn you that my kids know the truth about Santa. I am a Christian. I do not lie to my children. Soooo if the kids bring up Santa, I am not sure what they will say."
Um, OK. All of the other mothers shook their head in agreement like Santa was 2012's Wicked Witch of the West. I didn't say anything. I did not know what to say. Evidently I was out of the loop and no one really spoke to me the rest of the evening. Awesome!
On a different day, I had another incident with a mother where basically she went off about "America's Celebration Obsession with Santa" (these were her exact words) and that her children would not be involved because we are Christian she yelled at me.
Um, OK. When did this happen? I felt like a freak. Two crazy incidents about Santa, I knew for sure that I have been so busy with my job, husband, kids, home, etc. that I had missed the announcement that Santa is now evil.
What??? Isn't that weird? I mean Santa, Kris Kringle, Saint Nicholas, Papa Noel, Father Christmas, etc. has been around for centuries all around the world. We didn't all turn out bad believing in Santa. I believed in Santa for a long, long time and I was not scarred when my parents finally told me. Not for one second did I EVER feel like they had LIED to me like it was something that devastated me.
My kids know about Santa and are not horrible kids. I do think you have to balance why we have Christmas and my kids know exactly why we have Christmas and we spend time going to church, singing about Jesus and not just Santa, Santa, Santa.
I just don't like when people take their attitudes to the extreme (either way). Be moderate people!!!!
I am on Team Santa!!!!

I am also on Team Santa. I have such an opinion about this one. I feel anger towards those parents that do that. I am angry that the are going to take the magical, wonderful Santa away from child that, let's face it, you only have a few good years of them believing in the magic.
I love me some rants! I'm finding it hard to strike a balance. I'm on Team Santa but Bryan would be perfectly happy if we didn't "encourage the lie." So I'm trying to create magic while also not promoting "the lie" too much. It's tough. M is already "Santa! Santa! Santa" from school and part of me feels like, "uh oh, we've already lost her and need to reign her back in to the true meaning of Christmas." But then yes, I want her to enjoy the magic while she can.
I also believed a long time. I was however slightly devastated when I found out the truth but I don't ever remember thinking my parents lied to me. It was just more a sadness that Santa wasn't real.
But, regardless, I agree that such extreme attitudes are beyond annoying.
I am also for a balance. However, I hate that people pick on Santa. Everyone should (if that is their belief) teach their kids the true meaning of Christmas. However, to call it a lie is beyond me. In my opinion you have to do away with the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, and any other imaginary character out there. I just hate that someone would deprive their children of the wonderful legend of Santa Clause. He is based on truth (an actual Saint that helped the poor and fought injustice) and parents decided to keep his legend alive by keeping the tradition. Do these same people have a Christmas tree? Stockings? Lights? Like I said, I have a very strong feeling about it. Christmas is not about Santa per say and the gifts. It is about celebrating the true meaning, spending time with your family, and creating your own family traditions. Like making Christmas cookies and all that. Okay, I am done.
Wow!! 3 comments!! I really struck a nerve in society! Ha ha!! I like that we are all on the same team. Makes me feel validated! Ha ha!!
